Ace of Wands
"Desiring You"
They just don't seem to make rock music like Ace of Wands any more. With a classic rock feel, it also spills over into some modern sounds and has hidden elements which you really have to look for to hear. This song is fast paced and unrelenting. In fact, it seems like the more it goes on the more intense it becomes.
Artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Blondie and Sahara Hotnights all come to mind when listening to this, but there is such a wide range of rock music out there which this could pull slight influences from it would take too long to name them all. However, it is within these limits that Ace of Wands has managed to create their own brand of rock and that's impressive.
This video consists of the three piece playing the song live and that feels important to truly grasp what is happening. There are often times dueling vocals and just to be able to see that makes it more powerful somehow. Also, this video can just serve as a nice reminder of how hard that drummer is working back there.
On some secret level, I feel like "Desiring You" is a grunge song. It doesn't sound distorted, but the pacing of it, the lyrics of "Desiring me / Desiring you", it just feels like something that in a more heavily distorted / screaming the words type of way a band like Nirvana would've released this song. But that also just goes back to it feeling like Ace of Wands is forging their own path and that's not to be taken lightly.
