Music Review // Chris Bullinger "Darlin' 'n' Me"

With a Southern rock type of sound and those organ keys, Chris Bullinger has created a song here that is both fun to listen to and fun to sing along with.   I'm not really sure what type of music out there is similar to this because I can think of certain bands in adjacent genres (from ZZ Top to The Gadjits on that one album) but overall this just feels like its own sound and that also makes this special.

"Darlin 'n' Me" tells the story of Chris Bullinger, I would assume, and the woman he loves.   Sometimes the lines in this song are really sweet, such as: "If I was half as beautiful as half the things you see in me" which has a certain poetic way about it.   At the same time there is the confession that "She doesn't like my music but she sure knows how to use it when she shimmies / shimmies shakes".

This music video is animated in a very specific style.  I'm not sure what type of animation you would compare this with but I really like it and I enjoy that the color scheme seems to be pastels.   In the heyday of MTV I would watch animated videos such as "Paranoid Android" and it just brought a whole new form of art to the song.  I think that this music video does exactly that for Chris Bullinger, so definitely go out of your way to watch and enjoy this video as well.

Songs about love seem to either be set in the pre-tense, where someone is in love with someone but hasn't told them yet, or the past tense because it's a break up.  But having a love song in the present tense like this does seem to happen often enough.  I really enjoy this musically, even if she doesn't, and the visuals to go with it just add to the overall decision you should make to go out of your way to experience this.
