Music Review // Kellie Loder "The Month of May"
When this song starts there is this big rock feel to it where Kellie Loder sings "Don't break my heart / In the month of May" and all I can think of is this being performed live and as soon as those lines came out it was just this huge roar of applause. There is something about not breaking someone's heart in the month of May because of the way Spring is starting and everything feels so fresh and new. Breakups really should be saved for the Fall or Winter.
One of the lines about breaking up is: "They say if you just come out you'll be happy again / But it's just not true" and I agree because there isn't really a cure for being heart broken. You just sort of feel it a little less as time goes by and then eventually you don't feel it to the point where you can get back to normal. Lines like "I have missed you" though show that this song is at a point where the heart break is not going away soon.
Through oooh's the vocals just become belted out like this big power ballad. Background vocals and keys come in as well, giving this that almost gospel-like feel. This is just such a huge song and I feel like it carries itself with a lot of importance and rightfully so because the message is important. No matter who you are, you've either felt the tragedy of heart break or you will some day and so this song is something you can listen to for coping.
Though "The Month of May" does have a chorus, it also starts off slower and quieter. It doesn't get louder in an abrasive sense but just fuller. It seems like it starts at this quiet point though and just builds up to something ever so grand by the end. Hopefully, listening to this song will give you that idea that just as the song goes on, you must go on and it is the only way to overcome.
