Music Review // Parker Barrow “Blinded”
As soon as the song “Blinded” begins I hear those guitars which have that start and stop sound like rock n roll and metal. This makes me think of AC/DC and though I think of them at other times as well, it isn’t a strong influence coming out just something more on the surface. Big rocking and heavy rolling, Parker Barrow has as much power to this rock as there is melody and soul.
In some ways this song just makes me think of classic rock, like back when Lynyrd Skynyrd and Led Zeppelin were prominent. But I’m also reminded of the sound closer to blues in here, which gives it that soul and makes it feel closer to gospel as well. In many ways and on many levels I feel like music can be a very religious experience and the way that this song comes across just seems to reinforce that idea.
At one point this song keeps the rhythm but is reduced to just what sounds like clapping and the lyric comes out: “I hope you brought your shades, honey” and that just kind of shows the whole vibe of this song. I tend of think of tent preachers as not being seen in a positive light, but in the absolute best way possible I think of this as being the type of music where the artist wants you to get up and feel healed. Regardless, it feels like it will heal you anyway.
The music video for “Blinded” has the back and backup singers in a white room all dressed in white. Sometimes the images get a little trippy and goes right along with this song. I feel like lyrically this song is about having your dreams shattered- being blinded by the light is that realization of how life is- but it also just carries a vibe without it overall that you’re not going to be held down, you’re going to pick up those pieces and you’re going to keep going until you make it.
Wow! This band is fueling the resurgence of many great! rock bands of today! This and several of their other kick-ass songs are are so full of energy like the great rock of the early 70’s! I’m going to catch them live every time I can!!
