Music Review // Nick Faye "Lonely"
The sound of Nick Faye comes out in acoustics but can also rock at the same time. It's that combination of some band from the late 1990's alt-rock scene that had acoustic leanings. During the verses I think of a band like Counting Crows, but during the chorus it becomes more like Shawn Mullins. Better Than Ezra and The Wallflowers come out during the overall feeling of melody as well.
The idea of being lonely is something we've all likely felt before. Some people can feel lonely in a crowd, but I feel like this song is more about being lonely when you're by yourself and don't want to be alone. In some weird way, you could turn this into a sort of hip hop or R&B song, in that way of "Girl, you're along let me come over", but the lyrics of Nick Faye are more innocent at their heart.
Lines like "I want you to feel good" and "I just want to treat you right" show that this is one of those rare love songs about positivity rather than the physical aspects of a person. The chorus goes on to say: "I got what you need when you're lonely" which can leave a lot to the imagination, but sometimes that mystery and having things left to interpretation are what make for more powerful and meaningful lyrics.
There are likely a lot of songs out there that get right to that point of what they want to do with you when you're alone. Having this feel more like an emotional comfort and not directly implying what is going to happen gives the song more significance because as they say, sometimes less is more. The way this comes out through the voice of Nick Faye is also worth a listen.
