Music Review // Marty Kolls "Drive"
As someone who spends a lot of their time driving I find an instant connection with the song "Drive" by Marty Kolls. There is a steady pace to this song where if you happen to be driving and listening to it, then you will likely be guided by it. With guitar notes that remind me of P.O.D. and those big nostalgic drums that remind me of Phil Collins, this just sets you on the way to take the wheel and go.
During this music video there are both scenes of driving anf scenes of two people dancing around. I am so much reminded of the 1990's in this video because of the two people dancing one is dressed like Six (or another character from "Blossom" perhaps) and the other's outfit reminds me of something from "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air". But the way that they just dance, so care-free and happy, while also being reminded of what I would consider to be better times just seems to set the tone for this song overall.
Driving is something that we have to do to get from one place to another a lot of the times. When you've been driving as long as I have, you tend to think of it as being second nature at times. This is when the driving less about actual driving and more about thinking. I have some of my best ideas behind the wheel, which is both good and bad because sometimes I get snapped back into reality by a car horn when I'm trying to plot out my next great movie idea.
As Marty Kolls says: "Long roads can take some time / Maybe, help you unwind / Cause you know / You need to settle / The mind". This isn't just about driving through the nothingness of Missouri, but can also just be that mental state where you feel like maybe you're waiting and nothing is happening, but it's just the universe preparing you for what's to come. Whether you're driving (and be safe) or just waiting some other way, we're all going to end up where we're supposed to be, ultimately, and there is a peace in that.
