Music Review // Fraser In The Forest "What's Mine Is Yours"

This song begins with a slow, chill type of sound which has some great melody in it.   Fraser In The Forest sings about not knowing that you were the one when they were younger and how "I wish I chased this dream when I was young".   I like this line specifically because I feel like we always have this misconception of it being too late to do certain things.  Yes, maybe you missed your chance to train for the Olympics, but at the same time you're never too old to pick up a guitar and start playing music.  So don't let age discourage you if you think you're too old for things.

The way that "What's Mine Is Yours" continues feels like a song somewhere between the band fun. and Yellowcard because this is big on the strings in the chorus, so I feel like there is that distinction though a bit less punk than Yellowcard.  It's just the type of song that I feel like people would be gathered around singing together because it has a real sense of community and people sticking together, even as the lyrics suggest for you to sing along.

Behind these lyrics are a lot to be taken in different ways.  This song may feel like, on the surface, it is from one person to another and how any sort of fame or recognition which might come from this music is also attributed to this person who was the influence.  But I feel like we need this mentality now more than ever just because of the state of the world.  For example, if they're coming for someone who is something that you are not, you should still fight for that person if it's unjust.  Just because it isn't you now, doesn't mean it won't always be not you, so stand up for your neighbors.

Perhaps the biggest take away from this song though is that not only musically but also within the lyrics it just seems to have a sense of community.  The world can be a scary place on a global level right now, even on a national level if you're in certain countries, but I think it's the help of those within our own community and neighborhood that really matters most.  Especially when these times might seem to be the worst, we can come together and, like this song, make them shine a little bit brighter.
