Music Review // EDIE "Fall of Man"

The sound of EDIE is one which comes in with these haunted beats and ethereal sound that can make you feel like it's cinematic pop.  There is something in here which could be compared with someone like Lana Del Rey, on a mainstream scale, but ultimately it has more of this atmospheric, almost electronic type of sound like Polly Scattergood.  The true testament to how great this sound is perhaps is that there are not a lot of other artists to compare it with, though I feel like we need more music which sounds like this.

During the song, "Fall of Man", there is a story being told which I think a lot of people can relate with right now.  Whether or not you're in the United States, I think you can appreciate the fact that the entire world seems to be controlled right now by a lot of old men and it's just disgusting.  When we had our recent presidential elections here in the US, I feel like we should have nominated a woman just to give them a chance- since men have spent such a long time screwing up this country, which is, again, something that the world has felt the ripple effects from.

Of course this song can also be taken in a direct way about someone being wronged by a man, as the lyrics point out: "Do you even feel guilty / For leaving me alone / Can't talk to you when you can't admit when you're wrong".  At this level, I feel like this becomes an anthem for women who are basically tired of men mistreating them.  This can make it feel more like it brings women together, maybe not to cast off men completely, but at least to know their worth and know that they're not going to stand for being taken for granted any more.

Really, the chorus says it all: "Count the ways / Count the days / I wait and watch the second hand / I know I've tried / I've realized / I get to watch / The fall of man".  In this music video, I believe it is EDIE who seems to be in blue and underwater the entire time up until the end when she emerges with blood all around her mouth.  It's kind of like a what if Ariel was independent instead of just wanting to come on land for a man.  But they say right now there are those people who are hoping for the downfall of man (men included) and then there are those who support the evil in this world.  This song definitely can help you to pick a side.
