Music Review // Silver Liz "III"
https://silverliz.bandcamp.com/album/iii
If I was ever going to sit down and make a list of different artists in the same genre, to perhaps do an end of the year list with awards like "Best ___ Album", I would be able to put Silver Liz into the same category as so much other music that I've not only written about this year already but also just listen to in general. Artists with new albums out in 2026 that could tour with Silver Liz include Keep Shelly in Athens, Blackwater Holylight, Softcult and Farewood. It's just such a dreamy sort of rock n roll.
"III" begins with this intro that has a harmonica in it. From there it goes off into this moody, sort of gloomy type of sound. I feel like if we can put a specific sound into more than three subgenres, it should be a whole new genre, but yes, I can imagine this as shoegaze, dreamgaze and darkgaze. There is just this sound which is heavy, but not like metal- more like in the way it can fill up an entire room.
Elements of the past can also be found within this sound. Not from grunge per se, but from the sound which comes right after it. Garbage could be in here, but in a less heavy way. Just artists like K's Choice and Poe come to mind. It's that type of feeling where if you weren't going through a musical awakening between 1995-2000 you might not know some of these references, but that's okay. The sound of Silver Liz is still here now and you can stll experience it within all of the ambient melody and atmosphere you could possibly want.
