Music Review // Glimmerjean & Goode "Injured Romantics"
This song begins with a great guitar riff and sometimes that's all you need to lure you in. The guitar may not be the complete focus of this song, but in ways like other artists have done before- such as Franz Ferdinand- it still has that power where it carries the song to some end. This also creates this overall rocking sound which just sets the tone for the song, as it can feel like one which can make you want to get up and dance, with a little bit of that disco influence.
With the vocals I hear a bit of Fleetwood Mac in here, perhaps also Siouxsie and the Banshees, but it's really that quality of taking bits and pieces from those artists and combining them to forge this sound. A steady beat is behind all of this as well, which I think helps a lot with the way this one will not only make you feel but make you want to move. It's also just a lot of fun to watch them move around the music video itself.
I think the idea of "Injured Romantics" should explain itself but if you've never been romantic about anything then you might not understand. You don't even have to want a relationship with another person to be romantic. You could be romantic about music, for example. And sometimes music might let you down because maybe a band breaks up or your all-time favorite musician dies. In this way, we can become injured but remain romantic, which is to say we can feel like we've been hurt before but we keep coming back for more.
Towards the end of the song the question is asked: "Is this a love song / Are we injured romantics?" I like this because I like to think of the romance in this song being about music. And in some vague sense, every song is a love song, but yet, this also does feel like a love song because it's about how you can love something (or someone) and it can hurt you, but that doesn't stop you from loving. You keep going and you keep loving and I think sometimes we need to remember the strength that carries.
