Music Review // A Short Walk to Pluto "Outcast"

As someone who grew up feeling like an outcast I often wonder if everyone felt that way.  In school, particularly, kids seem to go off into groups and so if you feel like the athletes are the popular ones and you don't fit in, do the other groups also have that same sense of not fitting in for their own reasons?  It's interesting to think about, like maybe the jocks feel like outcasts because they don't have enough comic book knowledge or something.  Still, this song has a nice way of just painting the picture of an outcase in society on the whole.

One of the biggest lyrics which comes out right away in this song says: "It's lonely in crowded rooms"  This reminds me of a Robin Williams quote and just gives me that overall impression of how you can feel out of place in a room full of people.  I really don't do well in crowds, so I do enjoy that this song speaks on that and just makes it feel like there is such a thing as too much when it comes to being social.

Melodic rock takes us through some nice breaks downs into the chorus.   A Short Walk to Pluto on this song reminds me of a combination of Fleetwood Mac and Paramore.   There is a nice break down near the end of the song as well, when the lyrics say: "Sat in my grave last night".   This ties into earlier lyrics, as well, which say: "The fear is slowly killing me".   In this sense, I feel like this song really examines a side of being an outcast that many people don't talk about.

With that feeling of not belonging in a certain space- like at a live music show, in that venue- you can also begin to really get into your own head.  You start to think about where you do fit in, where you do belong, and it becomes much bigger than just one building and ultimately you can realize maybe you don't belong on this planet.   This is when things get scary and you should get help because everyone belongs somewhere and I feel like this song just shows that we all feel like this at times.
