Music Review // Grizzly Coast "Washed"

The idea of someone being "Washed" in terms of sports can also, in some weird way, apply to the way that a person can be "Washed" in a relationship.   If you, for example, have a quarterback in football who can just no longer get the job done, you could say he's "Washed" and replace him with someone more capable.   In this sense, the romantic relationship is similar because as this song says: "If you're not my speed anymore / What the hell am I waiting for?"

More so than just being about two people not being compatable any more, this song by Grizzly Coast also seems to feel that urgency to get away once this is realized.   Many of the vibes within the lyrics make it feel like once you find out this just isn't working any more, you have to get up and leave.  This also comes out in the music as at one point near the end the guitar tones can sound like an alarm, a wake up to leaving if you will.

With these distorted guitar riffs, "Washed" can be a lot of fun and high energy in the music.  The lyrics feel more like letting go, as the lines say "Everything I needed to say / Washed away".   Sometimes you hold things in for so long that by the time you're ready to let them out they just aren't there any more.  Then, they feel like they're gone just like the connection you once had, the feelings and everything all together.

Grizzly Coast spends a lot of the music video at the beach, which makes sense as the way this song goes it feels like the relationship is washing out to sea like the tide.   Whether you're in this type of situation now and need this song to help push you out the door or you've ever been in this situation in your life, this is just an overall great song musically and the message of the lyrics solidify the power of Grizzly Coast.
