Music Review // 2LOT "Call For Me"
While the sound of 2LOT begins as this R&B vibe with steady beats- a retro feel with some modern sounds mixed in like The Weeknd- it can take on other sounds throughout the song and in many ways those sounds mirror the overall tone of the song itself. As this song takes you down a dark hole, for example, the synths can go out of control as the beats drop. The synths can also just take off in a way which reminds me of Twenty One Pilots.
Ultimately, "Call For Me" is the type of song more people need to be making because it highlights the struggles of mental health / abuse / anything else that you might be feeling that is getting you down and it does so in such a positive way. This song truly shows that when you are down and feel like you are out, there is someone who is willing to help pick you back up. We all need someone like this in our life, someone who is just a call away.
During this music video you can see someone spiraling out of control, but ultimately someone leaves them a reassuring voice mail and says if they need them to call. At this point, the music comes out with this chorus which almost sounds religious. More so than going to church though, I think we should take this song as having a sense of community and uplifting each other in that way.
If you've ever felt so down that you couldn't get back up, maybe one phone call can change your perspective. If you don't have any contacts in your phone to call, there are resources out there with professionals who can help. Bad times don't last forever, and we can all endure this together. If you've not felt down lately, just be the person in this song that can be called upon when needed. In either case, this song needs to be played loudly enough for the whole world to hear its message.
