Music Review // Sam Weber "Void"

Sam Weber has crafted a slow, beautiful and just heart-warming type of song with "Void".   The pianos begin this with soft drumming, there are very light types of cymbals coming in and this just stays at the pace of a crawl while the music tries not to ever grow too loud or too bold.  This song is the perfect example of how you can make music which is close to being a ballad without being too soft.   It's that idea that music doesn't have to be cranked up to eleven to feel loud.

Throughout this song there are some lyrics which seem to give specific examples of this song telling a story about a specific time in the life of Sam Weber, a specific event.   But the chorus has the lines "How far we go / Into the void / Out of control" and I feel like that's something we can all relate with on some level.  Whatever your vice is, the idea of doing that thing instead of what is healthy for you could be your way of going into the void.

What's interesting is whether you think of this vice as being drugs, lust, gambling, etc. the lines such as "Sometimes the thrill gives you pain" can really ring true as well.  Even though taking that pill, placing that bet or seeing that person who is wrong for you might give you that adrenaline rush while a part of it, in the end it's going to leave you with only pain and this song just describes that in such a perfect way.

While "Void" is a slower song and might be more suitable for private listening, as it might be awkward to put on a playlist at a party, I think that also just shows how much more of a personal song it is.   This isn't the type of song you need to put on and listen to while seeking the approval of others.   This is the type of song you need to listen to while you're doing some soul searching inside of yourself and that is something which only you can do.
