Music Review // Cigar Club "Rain"

As this song begins with the sound of rain it also ends with it.   As we go into this guitar-driven post punk / alternative type of sound, Cigar Club can remind me of both The Flys and Trail of Dead.   It's quite the sound that I enjoy but also has this really nice guitar solo near the end which just makes it feel even more atmospheric.

What I like to think of the song "Rain" being about is how you could compare the rain you see during a storm with the passing of time.  If you imagine an hourglass, then those grains of sand coming down to note the passage of time can feel like raindrops.   But at the same time, the rain is like time because as it falls from the sky and hits the ground and disappears.  You can't pick that rain drop up and throw back up into the air the same way you can't get time back.

Cigar Club makes note right away in the lyrics "Misused all the time, I had today" and as the song goes on there are also the lines "If you had the time to save your past / Would you try a little more, to make it last?"  The longing and reflection felt within these lyrics definitely comes out within the music as well, as the whole song just makes you want to wax nostalgic.

There isn't really a way to go back and get that time lost.   Time is one of the few things we have in this world where when it's gone, it's gone.   If you lose money, you can always make more, but you can't even rob a bank to get more time.  So, if nothing else, listen to this somewhat trippy song- especially when it rains- and think about how to make the most of your time while you have it.
