Music Review // Odd Marshall "Midsummer"

If you ever think about music as seasonal then you know exactly when this song is for.   Perhaps it's the fact that, if you think about this in terms of summer being a vacation, you've been out of school for too long or you know you're at that point where you're going to begin to have less summer by the day, it just makes for this song which is somewhat maddening.

Musically, the melody is here and it feels like something you could hear from The Beatles but a little bit weirder.  It has that Rupert Holmes way about it, which can also be said that this song would fit in quite well with the vibe of the soundtrack to the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" film.  I always think that Pina Colada song is Jimmy Buffet and this could be along those same lines as well (mistaken for Jimmy Buffet)

The chorus sings: "We could be / Too good to be true" and that's kind of the idea of the song and just being in summer in general.   There is a line where he says they can "make love in the grass like hippies" and then by the end there are a bunch of la-la's that take us out.  Lyrically it just is that quirky but fun way.

I imagine this song playing better in the sunshine of summer than in the cold snow of winter.  As you're out, at the beach or just in nature in general, you can take the time to listen to this song as well if you have a playlist for such an occasion.   It will add that little bit of fun and weirdness to the situation that it might not even know it needs.
