Music Review // Debra-Jean Creelman "Say Goodnight"

Debra-Jean Creelman has created this slow moving and powerful song about not only the title- "Say Goodnight"- but about what can also feel like saying goodbye.  Lyrically this just has that end of the relationship type of vibe, where two people are going off in different directions.  Maybe one of them doesn't want to as much, but the person singing this song is singing their goodbye.

While horns come into this song it has a rather somber feel to it.   It feels focused but the sound is minimal.   I'm not even sure that I hear any guitar or bass and when the horns come in there isn't an easy way to describe this or relate it with anyone else, especially since the singing is so unique.

At one point, the drums kick in so you can really hear them.  This makes me think of Phil Collins.  By the end, the music just sounds like this quiet knocking.  One of my favorite lines in here is: "We were good for a song but not for too long" which just shows that life is fleeting.  I truly believe people come into your life but not to stay- like the special guest stars on tv- and that's okay.

Sometimes we just need someone to help us through a certain time in our lives and when they are done helping us they leave us.  This isn't a bad thing, I've just come to accept it as a part of life.  Whether you've felt on either side of this situation before or just want to hear this interesting and unique song then give this one a listen for sure.
