Music Review // Campbell and Johnston "Don't Get Down (On A Good Thing)"

The sound of Campbell and Johnston comes through with a high energy.  As soon as I press play on this song, you can feel the rhythm.   With that rock n roll meets Southern rock vibes, this almost becomes spiritual in the way that I can imagine everyone singing this inside of a church, banging on that tambourine.   It's just that type of sound that can flow through your entire body; it can take you over.

As the chorus sings the title of the song it also reminds us "Before it all burns to the ground".   In that way, I like to think of this song as a celebration of life and living it to its fullest.  There are moments within the song (and music video) which show off things such as work and burn out, but even though those might be a part of your life you also need to take that time to do what makes you happy, to enjoy life.

There is also a line in here I like that says: "You always drag me down".  If you're always dragging someone else down, that means you're probably already down and probably always down.  So you should think about how we only get one go around with life and so even just spending time not complaining about things makes a huge difference.  But I feel like working isn't always fun but it affords you a way to go out and do that which makes you happy and is fun.

While this might not specifically be a song for church, it does have a bit of spirituality in it.  I hope that listening to this song will motivate you and continue to drive you to spend more time enjoying life and thus bringing joy to others around you as well.   There is something in this where the message almost feels like a sermon, but it's also like it's being delivered from the church of rock n roll and so I'm more willing to listen because of those sweet, sweet guitar solos.
