Record Review // Blue Oyster Cult Bad Channels Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Full Moon Horror)

There was a time when films had soundtracks that should not only be celebrated but remembered.  Imagine an entire physical release for the soundtrack to "Maximum Overdrive" by AC/DC.   While people may not understand the importance of soundtracks these days, partly because soundtracks might not feel as grand as they once were, Full Moon takes us back to a time when we were talking about a soundtrack as much as the film itself.

If you've never seen the film "Bad Channels" it feels like a must.  Having aliens take over the airwaves and a radio station must fight for control all while a group of people outside of the radio station have no idea what's going on in there.  It's a classic.  But this film also features music from Blue Oyster Cult, who are a legendary band in their own way as I feel like everyone knows at least one of their songs.

This collection of music is set across two records, one being this striking blue that features the songs from the film.  Now, if you were someone who was into music more than films, this would be something you might want as the first record here has BOC, Joker, Fair Game and other artists on the soundtrack.  These are the songs from the film, but even just to think of it as a compilation and slice of sound from that time makes it quite the album on its own.

The second record in this set is standard black and features the score from "Bad Channels", which was done by Blue Oyster Cult.   This might be more for the fans of music and film or just film because a lot of times people who watch movies don't pay attention to the score.  But I feel like the score is always a great reminder of how a film would be different without it, so to have this score on record is also needed by me.

It is my belief that people underestimate the music in a film.  I want to do a deep dive one day into the best soundtracks and when it felt like we hit a point where soundtracks just stopped seeming to matter as much.  But as long as we can go back in time and get soundtracks like this released in a physical format, I'm going to be there to collect them as a lover of both music and film, and as someone who doesn't know which one they love more.

The Bad Channels Soundtrack is available from Full Moon Horror H E R E.
