Music Review // Nick Carver "Railroad"

"Railroad" is a song which starts and does not let up.  There are the distinct banging of the drums, a lap guitar and other various instruments in here which you can hear come out at the same time.  It feels like one of those songs you can stomp your feet to, while also having that Americana and blues feeling as the guitar slides around on its notes.

There aren't a lot of other artists that I think of in the same way as Nick Carver.  This really just feels like the type of song that you might hear a busker play, like maybe if you asked someone on a train to play you a little something.  But I also think of it in a similar way to how people create the one man band where they clap their knees together for the cymbals and that whole idea (Which I want to say was in "Mary Poppins"?)

The idea that this song is about the "Railroad" is fitting because it does have a sound to that which I can't describe why but when you hear it you'll know.  The lyrics have lines like about how you're "Telling your tall tales" and the video for this is in black and white, in front of a projection while who I assume is Nick Carver plays the instruments and dances around in some clown-like makeup.

Maybe if you go to a specific part of the South in the United States you'll hear more songs like this, but I don't hear a lot of songs like this.  It has serious tones to it but is just a lot of fun as well.  Even if you don't tend to listen to music on this side of the genre, you can still find yourself stomping your foot along when appropriate and knowing that something more than just the music itself went into the creation of this song-- it has soul.
