Music Review // Ali Handal "High Road" (feat. Marc Maron)

While the new single "High Road" has some country undertones, the overall vibe of it is the blues.  I really wish more artists were out there creating songs similar to this one because the starts and stops with the guitars just make it feel so distinct.  There is also a guitar solo in here, as there are just big guitar parts overall (that is with the help of Marc Maron)  Even in the chorus the vocals become layered, which will initially help you to sing along and get this one stuck in your head.

In modern times, the idea of the song "High Road" coming into play and meaning that we should take the high road over the low road couldn't be more important.  This could become very personal for you and the situations and relationships you find yourself in.  Sometimes, as they say, you just have to be the bigger person and sometimes that even can be the difference between whether or not you maintain a relationship with a family member.

But I think even more so than on a personal level we just have to keep this as an overall vibe.  Ali Handal might have a specific scenario in mind with a specific person when writing this song, but I feel like it could be more of a mantra for a way of living.  You have to imagine you're out driving and another car cuts you off.  Do you follow them to their destination, get out of your car and start yelling at them?  That might end with you getting in harm's way more than anything else.

Ali Handal sings both about only knowing the low road and the lyrics "How do I keep on losing my way / How many more times will I make the same mistakes" and I think that just shows that taking the high road can make you a better person.  Yes, it might also save your life one day, but if you just don't sweat the small things and let them go about their day while you go about yours you will find in the end that you save a lot of your piece of mind.
