Music Review // Amanduh "Crossing The Line"

"Crossing The Line" is the second of two singles released by Amanduh today and it has quite the contrast in lyrics from the first single "Hot Head".  Whereas "Hot Head" felt more like someone was bottled up (and ready to explode) "Crossing The Line" feels more like someone who is oversharing, someone who is taking things too far but not on purpose.  I think this is something we can all relate with in some ways because it just feels like that idea of when you're trying to help someone and you think you're doing good but you end up doing more harm than good.

There are lines in here that I really like such as "If looks could kill I would be deceased" but overall the lyrics just paint that picture of someone who seems mildly obsessed with someone else.  Another lyric in here which helps explain this says: "They must know a good thing when they see it", which I think in some ways just kind of justifies that way of crossing the line when in a relationship with someone you are that passionate about.

This song starts with bigger synth, like an expanding pop song, and it has more momentum than "Hot Head" but the two sound close enough that they make for a great double single while standing out.  "Crossing The Line" also feels closer to that nostalgic era of mall pop, or at least not so much like what is on the radio right now but what once was.  I hear Avril Lavigne in here and when the chorus says "Time after time" I think of it as a nod to Cyndi Lauper.

While this song addresses other issues (like hotness) the overall idea of the song seems to be summed up in the line: "I wanna be wanted".  Sometimes, when in a relatioship with someone else, I think that's all anybody wants- is to feel like the other person wants them there.  But then I think sometimes we end up doing things the other person might find to be a bit much, but it's just our way of trying to show that we have value and should be kept around.  I like how these two singles from Amanduh today almost feel like different sides of the same relationship, but yet it is possible to be them both at once.
