Music Review // Oh Pray Tell "Come In"
I really love Oh Pray Tell because as they sing it feels like they are not only telling you a story but filling you with the wisdom of the ancestors. As mutiple layers of vocals begin this song with a slight sense of strings behind it (which I think is a banjo) the bass line kicks in and this just becomes an anthem. There is a part in here where we get a solo by what I believe to be the banjo but this one just has soul. The vocals are in the lead and these words are to be taken to heart.
When the song first starts there are the lyrics "Come in child / You are being called". This takes us into a lot of other important lines that people will quote over time, such as "We are leaning towards survival" and "Stand down / For your grandchildren". What's most interesting about this song is that it seems to call upon those going off to fight in wars to simply come home. Isn't it funny how a handful of people can create a war and have thousands upon thousands fighting it for them. This seems to ask that question of what if the military all just stopped.
With many other affirmations (such as "You're strong" and "You hear us") this song cuts right to the heart of the matter with the line "No more racist genocide". One of the saddest parts about this right now is that there might have been a time when you knew specifically what that line was in reference to, but sadly we have entered a timeline somehow where multiple genocides are happening across the globe and they all just need to stop.
One of the things you really need to think about when listening to this song is that you are alive and you have free will. As the song says "Power, money, are no good if you're dead". Would you rather live now with all of these deaths on your hands as you fight a war for the wrong reasons or would you rather be able to sleep at night? Hopefully this song can be not a call to arms, per se, but more of a call to put down your weapons and no longer fighting for those who wouldn't fight for you.
