Music Review // Dumb Crush "Can't Say It Wasn't Fun"
When people think of music that can be "party rock", I feel like LMFAO really put that sound into a pigeonhole. But music doesn't always have to depressing or sad. Rock music can be fun. And Dumb Crush proves on this album that while there are serious moments, this is a rock n roll ride which is both wild and a lot of fun to go on. I would definitely listening to this album on a roadtrip just because it can give you that energy but also provide a nice soundtrack for wherever you are going.
Some of the artists who I am reminded of on "Can't Say It Wasn't Fun" include Soul Asylum for the more mainstream ideas, maybe a little bit of The Killers or Kings of Leon, and into the more you might not know about or have forgotten about are The Damn Personals, who are also on Bandcamp now. This is just a certain flavor of rock n roll that you'll hear and immediately recognize and relate with, while also feeling a bit like the band in "That Thing You Do!".
Not to be outdone in the party category there is a song on here called "0-100 in 60 Seconds" where the drum is banged 100 times in 60 seconds, though at the end they say it's only 90. I might count at some point for scientific reasons, but as of right now I have not. This takes us into a very fun and almost as filthy type of song about "Fucking up the function" and it's just a riot. This song feels like one of those anthems that, as a band, might get you kicked out of and maybe even banned from some bars.
Perhaps one of my favorite songs lyrically is called "Huntin" because it feels almost like something The Moldy Peaches would do. It begins with "Clickbait / Birthday cake / Never seen the Empire State / Shotgun / Logan's Run / How's it feel to have some fun?" There is almost a twang to this as well, which takes over the end of the album, and I'd actually love to hear Kimya Dawson cover "Huntin".
"Can't Say It Wasn't Fun" is a great album to listen to if you want to dance your worries away. While it is available on vinyl, there is no International shipping being offered right now, so perhaps just putting this one on in your car via Spotify (get those pennies!) is the way to go. Dumb Crush have not only created one of perhaps the most complete albums of 2026 but also perhaps one of the most enjoyable and pleasing to the ears.
