Music Review // da nang "IYKYK"

One of perhaps the best parts of this song and easiest ways to describe it is to simply state that in the chorus the lyrics do come out as the title- in the sense that they sing "eye why kay why kay".  I think if you're willing to sing that title out like that instead of what it stands for or some kind of weird word that might come out sounding like kayak then you can do almost anything vocally and musically.   So I do enjoy that part of this song for sure.

When "IYKYK" begins it has this guitar part which comes out like it's building.  It just feels like it's putting one brick down at a time, as that rhythm just climbs.  It's definitely punk to an extent, going to back to bands like Good Charlotte, MxPx and even older Green Day.   But in a more modern sense the way in which this song sort of stacks can make me think of songs like "Beach Community" by Joyce Manor.

Lyrically this song is about what the title suggests and my favorite set of lyrcs are: "It's too late / Save your face / When you're gonna see the truth / Ain't so great / Make me wait / Till you're ready".  This comes in near the chorus and then after a bass line solo there are some faster vocals as well.   This is just such a fun drinking type of song musically (at one point it does say "Can we get a drink right now") but it's also just about that idea of not wanting to wait around forever for that other person.

Along with these lyrics about knowing your worth just comes some of the best examples of how music can be played in a punk rock sort of anthem way without having to sound like every other punk band trying to create anthems.   At one point this song does say "My mistake" which makes me feel like there's even a little bit of a bite to overall, but if you're tired of waiting and know the value of your time, put this one on and rock out.
