Music Review // Amanduh "Hot Head"
The first of two singles released today by Amanduh, "Hot Head" begins with some nice synths and then becomes very much a pop anthem. This reminds me of artists such as Sabrina Carpenter and Pink, as it has this certain radio quality to it but also it's about losing your temper easily so it's not quite the radio-friendly song lyrically that other artists on the radio might be singing.
One of the first lyrics within here that really sets the tone says "Don't test me". After the line "Don't judge me" though the layers begin to unravel as the next line says You don't know anything that I don't wanna show you". Sometimes I feel like this is why people have a temper. It's partly because they keep everything bottled up inside, but it also could just be that they are private and so people who poke at them and want to know more set them off. It feels like one of those qualities that works both ways.
Before the chorus we have a rather threatening lyric which says "If you dare to cross that line you'll come back headless". If Amanduh was to release this song in a physical sense- either a record or a cassette- I think it would be fun for it to include a bracelet that says "headless" on it. I believe people are still making and trading bracelets, so it would be a nice way to give that something extra and special to an already great song that I think would make for a great single with "Crossing The Line", which also releases today.
As this is also the first Friday in October I think it is fitting that the chorus has the lyrics: "Lose my temper / lose my cool / spill my guts all over you / don't hate me / what's a girl to do" as they can feel like something out of a horror movie where a woman goes on a murderous rampage and then is just like "Oopsie". I've always thought that if I could make pop music (I can't) that I'd put lyrics in there that didn't quite fit the tone and Amanduh has done something like that. These lyrics could just as easily be in a death metal song, but I love that they're all bright and bubbly.
