Cassette Review // Desprecio Nauseabundo "Mannequin"(Error Prone Records)

This cassette begins with a deep droning, like maybe sailors would use. It then turns into this expanding and retracting space synth sound. This then begins to drop off distorted bass bombs. Ringing now, as if in an alarm pattern and then higher tones just carry through the ambient drone. Big gongs come through and then what feels like an electric guitar note comes through in repetition. The synth begins expanding again and it feels like we're floating, lost in space.
We drop off into this haunted realm where it feels like someone says "Oooooh!" but it might have been a note. This really takes us into these spacey waves. Whirrs come whooshing through now and it definitely feels like we're up to something in space. Some dinging now and we're taking off. It's like sonar and we're trying to find our way. This fades to where it feels like the side can be over, but it is just the track.
Synth bass notes slowly return, bringing with them a sound that echoes and it just creates this steady rhythm like we're driving. It can also feel like the way you skip rocks across a pond, but then it fades and the distortion from what sounds like an old television or radio comes on. This brings some pretty big and distinct synth notes with it. Beats enter now and this is getting into a synth hip hop type of electronica way. A little deeper and it could be industrial. A little bit of a tapping vibe but these synths stay in a pattern which can get stuck in your head, like a sequence to opening a vault. Doogie Howser vibes in here as well.
Darker tones are joined by what sounds like sharp feedback amidst this static drone, but then that synth tone pattern is back to repeating. As we reach the end of the first side, this all just seems to fade out as if the transmission has been lost.
With some sharp sounding tones and a smooth rhythm we begin the flip side with a bit of energy. This all turns into rather high pitched tones coming through one at a time. It feels like sort of Pole Position synths now ripping through. Deep, dark, stabbing bass notes come through next. This turns into sort of organ synths coming through like Phantom of the Opera as well. These dark tones feel like the plucking of a cello string. This continues as a dark and hypnotizing pattern.
This becomes a steady bass line, which makes me think of back when Gangrel was in WWE with The Brood and that theme song. More synth tones come in which make this also feel like a television theme song from that Punky Brewster era. It takes that percussion solo, the bass returns and then we're onto a whole new level of synth loops. It's really started to sing and tell a story here.
We feel we faded out to end, but once again a new song is beginning. Those really deep bass lines come out where it feels like we're in that boiler room just not having a good time. A more pleasant and upbeat type of synth and drum machine comes out in loops now. Higher pitched tones now give this both an alien feel and a dance feel somehow. This can go from feeling harsh and intrusive to more like we're just sailing along in a video game and I like that. Some magical tones ring through now and then we're back to the Doogie Howser feel.
Those deep synth whirrs are back. It can sound like a dying engine. Desolate notes come out now, as if we're on a quest for home. Big space synths laser on through like robots. It feels as if we are still signaling for home while also moving closer to it. Perhaps these last few notes in their pattern serve as a way of letting whoever needs to know that we are on our way home.
