Music Review // Curtis Clear Sky and the Constellationz "Real People of the Continent"
This song begins with some bass and a particular flute sound which then just kicks right in to how the chorus will sound and it's just a vibe. The lyrics and music hit hard and they hit fast with a funky bass line. This reminds me of artists such as Sprung Monkey, Living Colour, Fishbone and George Clinton. I know Warped Tour has become a bit cliche, but back in the 1990's I did see Fishbone on Warped Tour and I think this song would fit right in with that whole scene.
The chorus really just pushes the title and another line on you as it says: "Real people of the continents / Real people of the land". Without being too political, let's just say that immigration has been a hot topic for quite a while and it seems to become even more so of one in the United States in 2026. But there are a lot of people who have families that came here from Europe claiming this is their land when in fact this song is about those who were always here. I believe the saying goes "No one is illegal on stolen land".
With the big bass line that I love I also respect that there are those blistering guitar solos in here as well. Before the end of the song it all goes quiet, back to that minimal eerie flute sound, and then it comes back and kicks in all over again. This is just a sound that has a lot of energy and it feels like you can get up and move to it. But there also is a message in these lyrics, which have lines like "Time to end this colonizer curse" and that is perhaps what is most punk about this song.
Music is largely meant to make you feel things and this song is definitely going to make you feel things. If you are Native, then Curtis Clear Sky and the Constellationz will be something with which you relate at least lyrically. If you are on the right side of history though, you know that this song will enhance your mind more than any book in school ever could because they still want to teach you about Christopher Columbus as if he's a good guy. Music truly is the education of the soul and "Real People of the Continent" proves that.
