Music Review // Glimmerjean & Goode "Rosavelle"

At first, I feel like this song has this country twang to it, which kind of stays throughout in the undertones, but as it kicks in it can also fade to the background.  With this big start and stop guitars, those horns come out in the chorus and there is even a Buddy Holly-like guitar solo before the end.   This song just embraces rock n roll through several eras, reminding me at times of both Rolling Stones and Cher.

This song tells the story of the titular character, which is someone who the person singing about her loves.   Within the first verse there are the lines: "I was standing there / calling her name  / yelling through a window / but my baby never came" and later on we find out that she does in fact show up at the bar.   I really do like that this song tells that story though because we need more storytelling in rock n roll.

One of the qualities which makes this song a hit you could hear on the radio and instantly remember as well is that the title of it, the main character, is "Rosavelle".  This name does come out in the chorus, though at times she is also referred to simply as Rosie, but the fact that this is such a distinct name- a name which I had never heard before this song- is going to make it stand out from every other song singing about someone.

If you happen to be named Rosavelle then you will be happy to listen to this song knowing that someone has finally written a song with you in mind.  But if this was a more common name, when anyone else heard it they would try and remember it but maybe confuse it with similar common names.  In the case of "Rosavelle" though, there is no confusion and this one will certainly stick with you.
