Music Review // Nick Faye "Undone"
There is a certain drive behind this song by Nick Faye. It starts moving and just doesn't stop. Somewhat mellow, somewhat dramatic this feels like it's powered by acoustics but it's also just flat out rocking. There aren't a lot of artists to compare this one with musically, but it does remind me of All Get Out at times and that itself can even become a specific type of genre.
Right away this song says "I feel like Katy fricken Perry" and I do so enjoy when artists name drop other artists but I especially enjoy it when they do so to the extent that it's not really in the same genre either. If Nick Faye mentioned someone like Neil Young it would've been more on par with this style of music, so to kind of have the pop star mentioned within the rock just always pleases me in a way which it perhaps doesn't to most.
While there are notes on Bandcamp with the lyrics that say this song is about growing tiresome of online dating, it can also be thought of as being in the sense of just growing tired of anything. Lines like "I'm losing my head, I'm losing my mind, need you to know" could just be about someone coming undone and the reason doesn't have to be specific. Especially now in 2025, I think we can all begin to feel as if we're spiraling out.
Online dating is definitely a special kind of Hell. The line "You keep feeding me those same lines" shows how it can feel like you're talking to a program and not a person, but also just the whole idea of people online being too unrealistic and lying. All I'm saying is, if you went to a bar and saw someone you might be interested in- in the real world- they might not meet your standards. Plus everyone online wants everything perfect and none of us are, so play this song loud for those still online dating or just going through it.
