Music Review // The Dead Daisies "Crossroads"
While "Crossroads" is a cover of a Robert Johnson song being performed by The Dead Daisies, I definitely feel like in the year 2025 while music just seems to be going more and more digital- and further from the physical only years- certain music might be forgotten about or overlooked. Having an album (or song) now can just put it out there into the world in so many different ways, but yet there is also an overwhelming amount of new music coming out every year. The radio is also trying to erase certain songs from our history.
Someone who is younger might hear this song and think that they like it and become a fan of The Dead Daisies. If that's as far as you go with this song, that's fine but it's also really a disservice to everyone involved in this and to yourself. If you like this song you should go out of your way to hear the original, even though it is not quite the same spitfire that The Dead Daisies bring to the table.
This song hits hard and it hits fast. It reminds me a bit of The Black Crowes. Somewhere between blues and just good old fashioned rock n roll, this is definitely the type of music that also doesn't seem to be around as much because it doesn't play well to the TikTok crowd that doesn't have an attention span. The idea of this song being discovered by a pre-teen who primarily listens to songs from TikTok and informing their parents they discovered a whole new genre of music just makes me feel both hopeful for the future of music and old.
As long as there is music, there will always be rock n roll. The Dead Daisies keeping that sound alive just on the whole is incredible, but them also helping keep the memory of Robert Johnson alive through sound is also an accomplishment. At the end of the song, as it's fading out, there is a line which says "Tell Mr Johnson I said hello" and hopefully enough people are curious as to who Mr. Johnson is to seek that knowledge out and keep this all going.
