Music Review // The Clearwater Swimmers "The Clearwater Swimmers"

When The Clearwater Swimmers begin their self-titled album I am immediately reminded of the Mountain Movers.  They have that same sort of mellow and melodic rock sound though The Clearwater Swimmers aren't quite as psychedelic.   This sound is slow moving and as we go into "River" there are higher pitched vocals and steady drums.   "Let Us Be Strangers" has a stomping sound and more of country undertones and so eventually too I'm thinking about Neil Young.

As we go into "Proud" there is a sense of The Get Up Kids "On A Wire" (which is their album that I reference the most) and then things slow down a bit on "Man of God" but those strums still feel distorted.    The starts and stops on "Firewood" can remind me a bit of New End Original and "Heaven's a Bar" can get really dreamy.  "Weathervane" has acoustics and then that stomping percussion.

A "Woo!" and we're into "Kites". while "Radiant" is a very acoustic, raw sounding song to end on.   This album will, ultimately, bring out different influences depending upon who you were influenced by, but it's a slow burn of rock music that touches the soul.  This is the type of album you need to listen through at least once just to have that experience but if you're like me you'll keep going back for more.
