Music Review // MARZIA "Supermodel"

MARZIA begins "Supermodel" with these elegant pianos which quickly turn into a fast paced pop song.  Elements of both Destiny's Child and something more jazz based with horns come through and this can almost feel like that type of anthem Janet Jackson or Paula Abdul would have created back in the 1990's.   There is a definite energy to this song that I enjoy- it feels like you can get up and dance to it- but the lyrics is where it begins to lose me a little.

During the chorus of "Supermodel", MARZIA says "Hold me down the way you hold on to your type S" (which I googled and found courtesy of Boomplay)  I wasn't sure what this meant because I'm not sure I've ever heard of a "type S" before, but when I googled that I found out it's a type of a car- a luxury car at that- so it makes sense with the idea of a rich man dating a supermodel.

This song also sings that "Honey I can be your wife" and "I'll take that place you saved / For the one you think is real".    I find this part of the song to be confusing because, yes, it's about wanting to be in a relationship with someone else and being that perfect person for them- but which one in the song is the "Supermodel"?  Is MARZIA the "Supermodel" or is she singing to the "Supermodel"?  I feel like there are better ways to clarify this, lyrically, and so in that way this song somewhat loses me.

Musically though, MARZIA has created a song which has a lot of passion.  This could come on the radio or a tthe club and you can just dance.  Some of the best songs- some of the most popular and remembered over the years- have had misunderstood lyrics, so I don't want the fact that I don't get this song lyrically to affect how anyone else may feel about it because it is still a whole lot of fun musically.   And, who knows, lyrically you might get it.
