Music Review // Vicki Lovelee "Double Edged Sword"

The way that "Double Edged Sword" sounds as a song feels like it's a part of some magical musical but there are also these intense strings which give it that dark pop aspect.  Overall Vicki Lovelee can just morph sound into a way which it hasn't been heard before because it can be both pop and radio friendly but also maybe not for everyone and genre specific at the same time.  The pop elements should shine through though, like Danny Elfman, and it should make this the type of song that everyone wants to hear on the radio and in general.

Every year on Halloween I watch the movie "Donnie Darko".   For this reason, "Double Edged Sword" makes me think specifically about the character in that film portrayed by Patrick Swayze.   It's that classic case of going on television, smiling big and looking like the best person out there and the answer to everyone's prayers, but in reality you have all of these skeletons in your closet which will ultimately be revealed.

Within this song there are the lyrics "You can keep pretending to play nice / With one hand on your trophy and the other on your knife".   The idea of someone having that double edged sword is like them being two-faced and that one end of the sword is about to stab them.   It's funny how a lot of these types of people are all sent to their own undoing by their own mistakes and just the feeling like they're untouchable.

During this song you can hear the sword drawn and it just has a fun and somewhat playful nature to it, even though it could be taken as a threat.   In ways, I feel like this is that type of song which makes you not want to mess with Vicki Lovelee because she'll take you down and expose you for the terrible person that you are while also laughing in your face.   Honestly, we need more of these terrible people exposed and out of the public spotlight so if this song inspires any of that in a grand sense or even just a specific personal sense for a listener then it is all worth it.
