Music Review // We Found a Lovebird "100%"
We Found a Lovebird have a sound which feels like a mid to late 1990's band that might have had one song on the radio but a lot of people have forgotten about now. Artists like Del Amitri and Stroke 9 come to mind, as this is a guitar-based yet quirky sort of rock n roll sound. In the early 2000s, this would've been called "college radio rock" but I'm sure that now it's grown into a more precise genre.
One of the interesting aspects of this song is that it opens with the lines: "It could rain / It could not / It could stay cold / It could just as easily get hot" While the weather is something which doesn't really ever seem to be 100%, the idea that it is October right now and we have hit highs in the 80s is just not supposed to happen. As a kid, I remember going trick or treating in the snow and now it could be shorts weather next week.
At the same time, the chorus of this song has the line "I'm 100% sane". When first hearing this you might think to yourself that sounds incorrect, but I think the message is more about having a conversation and getting people talking about mental health rather than actually believing someone thinks they are 100% sane. Everyone has some part of them that they (or others) think is crazy, right? No one can be 100% sane, especially in this world.
But, again, this song will hopefully get you talking about what makes you feel like you aren't 100% sane. Perhaps feeling like you're 100% sane is the first sign of not being that. If we all talked more though about what we feel is keeping us from being 100% sane, perhaps we'lll all see we have more in common than we thought and we'll realize it's okay to not be okay. The fact that this song is even sparking that discussion is a sign it should be heard more.
