Music Review // Golden Feather "What Your Heart is Telling You"
Golden Feather begins this song with this sort of blues driven guitar riff which welcomes in dreamy horns. This is a very easy going, laid back type of sound and it almost feels like it's whispering in the chorus. It sounds familiar, but I can't quite put my finger on what this mellow-smooth sound reminds me of exactly. Still, it remains a lot of fun to listen to and the song has more music in it than lyrics.
The message of "What Your Heart is Telling You" is a good one because it's about having faith in yourself. There are these lines near the end that I think people should take as a mantra and they say: "It's best not to idolize anyone / You better learn to trust yourself" Far too often you want to look up to others for inspiration, asking yourself what that person would do in that situation, but why not just trust your instincts and do what your heart tells you to do.
There is a story within this song, with lines such as "Is it really getting better now? / Sorry that I let you down" and by the end we drift off into pianos, but I really think this is the type of song that more people need to listen to in their lives for inspiration because who is better qualified to make a decision regarding your life choices than you? I don't think anyone is, and the more confident you get in your choices the better they will become.
It's easy to think that if your hero or role model was in the situation that you're in they'd make the right decision, but the fact of the matter is we're all human and so they might make the wrong decision as well. Trusting your heart might get you hurt or maybe you make the wrong choice in the long run, but at least it was your choice to make. You're on your own journey in life and as such it should be your choice as to whether you make it or break it. And at least if you don't make it on your own terms, you still can say you did it your way.
