Music Review // Tryg Strand "Love And War"

"Love And War" begins with these great rock n roll guitars.  During the song, Tryg Strand brings in some groovy keys and backing vocals which can just make this song feel like it's borderline gospel.  As someone who attended church in their youth, I can really get into these songs which might sound like rocking hymns but aren't singing about the types of topics you might hear about in church.  In some ways, I feel like music is the one true religion which ties us all together, but I'm not sure if we're ready for that conversation or not.

The thing about having a song like this though is that if you're going to act like you're getting up in front of a crowd and, sure you're not preaching like the pastor on Sunday but you still better have something to say.  Along these lines, Tryg Strand does have the lyric: "I've got some demons that I'm trying to slay", which does go along with the whole church idea although to be fair it could also be about something like Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

Something that I can agree with, as it is how I start my day, is the lyric that "Talk black coffee generally does the trick" and it doesn't really even seem to matter what this is in reference to exactly.  You get some coffee in me- black coffee- and I suddenly have the energy and will power to do just about anything.   As much as I love music (and I love music) I feel like if I was ever going to go to a church for something other than music, it might be a church for black coffee because that's just something not to be taken lightly.

With these big guitars, "Love And War" has a sound where you're going to want to play it out and you're going to want it to be coming out of speakers.   This is not the type of song to keep contained.  Still, one of my favorite lyrics in here that I think we can all relate with right now says "I just wanna feel something more".  You don't have to sit down and listen to this song on a Sunday morning, and it might not be a 100% religious type of experience in the lyrics and sound, but what you take away from this most certainly will be something spiritual.
