Music Review // Sheri Miller "I Could Love You Still"

One of the things which I enjoy the most about music is that as long as it lives on, those who made it never really die.  I think about those huge, household names such as Michael Jackson and though you may not be able to go see him in concert still you can share his music and in that way he lives on.  Steve Cropper, who passed away a few months ago, will live on through this song called "I Could Love You Still", which is a tribute by Sheri Miller and also features Paul Shaffer and Will Lee helping to round out the sound.

Right away when watching this music video you're going to see images of Sheri Miller singing along to the song but within those also come still images- photos from concerts as well as just photos of friends together.  This very much feels like the type of video you might play at a funeral, to keep the memory the person alive, mixed with the musical aspects of this, which I think does more than just create a memory but also unlocks a new memory which can help you to move forward and help keep Steve Cropper in your mind and heart as years go on.

The lyrics of this song are sweet, but they are also about the passage of time and how life can seemingly just slip away from us.  It's that idea that one day you're a week removed from something, the next you wake up and you're years away.  Lines such as "Three years come and gone / Since I've last seen your face" make that known, but also just the idea of the chorus and the title of the song being "But I think I could love you still" just showing that the memory and the love can stay alive longer after we are gone in other ways.

Perhaps one of my favorite ways to think about this song is like when you lose touch with someone you were once rather close with.  There wasn't a reason you lost touch, it was just that you hadn't talked for a few days and then when you saw them again in the grocery store you realized it had actually been a few years.  But you were able to pick up right where you left off.  And now, though you might not see that person again at the grocery store, this song just makes it feel like you can still pick up where you left off.  All the memories can come rushing right back to you, through their music and through this song as well.
