Music Review // Shorehaven "Oh, Baby!"

When first listening to the song "Oh, Baby!" it can feel like Shorehaven are coming out with an anthem about breaking up with someone.   They have the lyrics "I love you but I can't take this any more", so it seems like they're through.  But as you listen to the song all the way through and really think about these lyrics, this isn't a break up song but more of a recognizing that during a relationship sometimes you need time apart from one another.  And there is a line in here to that extent, about just needing space.

Shorehaven has a pretty straight forward pop punk sound, like Cinema Stare or Meet Me At The Altar.  It's a lot of fun energy, where you can just bounce around but also get your point across.  Through a music video with live performances there are also parts of the song being acted out, which just makes this feel like the type of music video we would've seen on MTV back when they had more music videos.  It also can very much feel like a music video that My Chemical Romance might create for a song as well.

One of the best parts about this song is that the lyrics can be taken several different ways.  There is just that general idea of needing space and not spending every single second with someone else, but then there is also a line in this song that says: "I'm singing silly love songs / You're diving right off the stage".  I understand that this is about the relationship between two people, but you could also just think of that specific scenario as being about a band needing time away from their fans, from the road, etc and just everything that comes with creating music-- which is also a space that needs to be respected.

By the end of "Oh, Baby!" you'll hear lyrics about how when they get married they'll remember how they almost killed each other and this also just brings to light that idea of being in a relationship with someone while also being in a band with them.  Even if you aren't out to get married one day, being in a van for a certain amount of time with anyone can feel like it's too much.  So however you need to relate with this catchy song, just know that it is okay to ask for space and that doesn't change the way you feel about someone it's just healthy.
