Music Review // Anais Campbell "Small Things Everyday"
When I think about "Small Things Every Day" I think about the little things that make up life, which can both be good and bad. One of the things I think of which goes best with this idea is eating. While it is vital for us to stay live, eating can also just take out ten to twenty minutes a day of your time. So there are times when I don't want to do it, but then there are other times when I'm craving tacos and having them is just the best part of my day.
Anais Campbell not only sings about the day to day aspects of life, but also just looking towards the future. One of these things isn't so small and that's the notion of getting a job, "a real job", which just goes into the whole idea of what a real job is. Many people wouldn't consider being a musician a real job, and yet those same people all have music in so many aspects of their lives. Society suffers from this disease where they want art but they don't want to pay for it.
There is also the line in the chorus which says: "Easy to dream when it's so far away" and we all kind of have (or had) those dreams but as we get older we might not realize them and it becomes more difficult to have dreams for when you're over sixty years old. Life also becomes more difficult for dreaming when it feels like generations before us could afford a house and two cars and we're barely scraping by.
With fresh acoustics and a big voice, Anais Campbell creates this sound which has rock undertones but during the chorus can feel a little bit of that country twang. This reminds me a lot of Paula Cole, but also it can be more towards the pop side of country, someone like Shania Twain on a large scale. But it isn't overly country, so that won't be something to keep you away, as this just feels like the type of song we should all relate with because we all go through these small things every day.
