Music Review // Jody Glenham "Love Deficiency Syndrome"
I'm the type of person who believes that every song, at its core, is a love song. Now we have this song called "Love Deficiency Syndrome" by Jody Glenham and though it might feel more like it's about the absence of love it still makes for an appropriate song with tomorrow being the day that it is. If you're in that type of relationship- especially a marriage- where it can feel like you're just going through the motions and tomorrow being Valentine's Day becomes an even bigger reminder of that perhaps it is time to make some decisions.
The rocking type that this song begins as has these guitars which remind me of something between The Police and Talking Heads. It's nice and just carries on that way for the verses, but picks up and becomes a bit more dreamy during the chorus. There is a break down toward the end and you can hear it go off into this almost 1960's styled rock n roll sound as well. In a large way, a way which most will know, this song doesn't sound exactly like Best Coast but it sounds enough like them that if you enjoy Best Coast you'll love this song.
Lyrically the mantra you want to take from this song is: "I'll be fine in the long run". When it comes to romantic relationships, there are a lot of decisions to be made and maybe it will feel like they're tough decisions, but just know that in the end it will feel worth it not to feel underappreciated or just unloved any more. But this also stands for every type of situation right now- not just romantic- because times are tough all around. There are things you might not want to be doing, but just know it won't always be this bad forever.
When this song starts with a scenario about being in the same room as someone with the tv on but no one is watching it, I can fully understand and relate with that idea of being there but not being present. What really feels like a personal sort of lyric to me is when Jody Glenham says "Anger isn't sexy" because that just feels like it hit a little bit too close to home. Either way, whether you're in this situation or not and can benefit from the song in that aspect, just listening to this as the music is just lovely is enough reason to add it to your favorite playlist.
