Most of my roots is in Poland, so whenever I see an artist come through who is also from Poland it makes me quite happy.  This is a compilation of songs from BZDET, available for the first time in the US, and it can take you through a musical journey of sound which somehow remains grounded by one underlying genre: punk.   This cassette begins with those drum machine drums, words spoken one at a time and the claps.   It is somewhere between synthwave and new wave, but there is also just this groove to it.

At first, I'm thinking of artists such as Devo but as we move into more songs I also hear more recent artists such as Vlimmer.   Throughout these songs there is a definitive punk energy, even though it can quickly slow down and become somewhat chill.  A faster song is right on the horizon though, coming through like a broken pinball machine riot.   A distorted punk drive, and then percussion steady beats with keys.  This almost becomes reggae/dub at this point.  Then a big, distorted bass line comes in with clanky guitars and I'm reminded of a band such as Primus.

The bass and percussion can become bouncy, bringing us into these higher pitched vocals, and it can somewhat sound like The B-52's, musically.  It also takes us into that era of Stone Temple Pilots when they covered "Dancing Days" and just took us into that sort of trippy era of lighter sounding rock but not light rock- just the kind that made you feel like you were floating around on clouds and nothing could hold you down.

Onto the flip side that fast paced Vlimmer sound returns.  I'm thinking of darkwave and then it goes into this solid guitar punk, but only for about thirty seconds, and it makes me think of The Misfits.   Fast and grinding now, I feel like there are elements of Nirvana in here musically, but also I'm left thinking of Talking Heads, which is just such a diverse group of artists to hear within the sound, but again, they're all just connected at the roots by punk rock.
