The newest cassette release from Vlimmer is an EP called "Diskomfort". While these songs might not make you feel uncomfortable, listening to them does seem to shift the mood. Dreamy synths begin this whole cassette as it can feel kind of like The Cure or something from "Breakfast Club". The beats remain steady throughout the first song as well. During the second song, "Ungleichgewicht", there are these isolated synths and vocals to begin but then it kicks into fast and heavy break beats.
Sharper synths can cut through during the second song as well, and then by the third you can feel a bit more uplifted, more upbeat as if the first side is going out with some sense of hope. This is funny only because I listened to this cassette and got that impression without realizing that song is called "It's Not The End Of The World?". In some ways I think it would feel more reassuring if the world was in fact ending, but then knowing that the world isn't ending- because the title questions it- does make it give off that hope.
On the flip side we begin with a slight glitch and then head into that smooth gothwave. The titular track- "Diskomfort"- which is the second song on Side B comes out heavy with the gloss tones but then also can kick in with this distortion like punk rock. Through the heaviness, through the chaos and through what feels like just utter destruction, it is also important to note that the percussion is playing such a large role within this all.
The last song on this cassette has more of a slower, more dramatic intent. By the end it just sort of fades out. This is probably the best way for this to go, as it kind of lingers rather than just disappearing completely. And though this isn't harsh noise or painful on the ears, the way that you might be listening to something pop and happy then have this come on does show how it is here to upset the current mood by using sound to create a mood all its own.
