Music Review // Rudy Love & The Encore "Burnin'"
As soon as "Burnin" hits you can feel this funky bass line that you know will take you into some soulful jazz. The new single is from the forthcoming album "11", part of the Buy Before You Stream Initiative, which will be available physically on record prior to digital. While the sound of Rudy Love & The Encore might not be easily comparible with other artists, it does have a certain energy to it where it just feels like a lot of fun. This is just the type of vibe that no matter where you are when you hear this song, it will make you get up and move.
In a music sense it's so much fun listening to this song that it doesn't seem like you're really going to stop and pick apart its pieces or even think of who it may remind you of otherwise. But on some levels I hear this sort of hip hop fused (think A Tribe Called Quest and Das Efx) rock from a band such a Red Hot Chilli Peppers. On top of that, you can even throw in some of that George Clinton sound just to round it out in a general way but in a much more specific way this song is in a genre all by itself.
The chorus to "Burnin" has the lines: "And if this night was your last one / Tell me where would you wanna be / Cause I can't even lie / If the world was on fire I'd be burnin it up with you". What I like about these lines is that it seems pretty obvious that it would be in a romantic sense, but I also like to think of the "where would you wanna be". If we knew the world was going to end tomorrow but I had tickets to Rudy Love & The Encore tonight then at that show is where I'd be.
To keep up the theme of the title there is a line that I like: "It's hot as hell in here / But as long as I'm with you I don't give a damn", which again makes me feel as if we're talking about the relationship between the artist on stage and the audience rather than something romantic. If you're currently in a relationship or just feel that way about someone else, then this song will put you into that right groove. If you also just happen to have an appreciation for music this will also likely be top on your playlist.
