Music Review // 2LOT and Aloe Blacc "Immortal"
The song "Immortal" asks a very important question: "What if there's no tomorrow?". This isn't meant to send you into a panic, but rather have you look at your choices, look at your life and wonder whether or not you've lived it to the fullest. This isn't an end of the world scenario, but just a matter of whether or not you want to have unfinished business and if you can finish that business now why don't you. As the song also says: "When we look back on all our days I hope we say we lived them brave"
With an upbeat, pop sort of way about the song you can really hear the keys coming through. This will hopefully make you get up and move, as it feels like it can be used to various videos and just that all around inspiration of making the most of every day you're alive. Though the chorus asks us to live like we're immortal ("Immortal till the day we die") this also isn't a song about running into oncoming traffic and feeling like there won't be consequences.
Perhaps the best set of lyrics within this song are: "I was always running from nothing / All of my fears and all of my failures kept me from what was coming / From everything" You have to realize that this song isn't intended to send you out to do stupid things because you think you can't die or to put you into a frenzy because the world is ending. You need to be mindful of all things around, but most importantly, you need to look at your failures and fears and see where they have gotten you.
Just because you tried something and it didn't work, don't be afraid to keep trying it until you succeed. And if fear is holding you back, that's the idea here-- once there is no more tomorrow those fears won't matter. So go out there and do what scares you. You can even sing along with this song for that inspiration. When it all reaches the end, we're going to remember what we didn't do and we're going to be glad we kept going and overcame those fears. We are going to be happy we lived life.
