Music Review // Jont "Fingers Crossed"
"Fingers Crossed" has a way about it which sounds like that folk rock you probably have someone you can relate the sound with. As it is electric and carries through the verses, I first hear someone like Bob Dylan or Tom Petty. The chorus can bring in these organ sounds though which make me think about someone like The Wallfowers as well, but it all kind of sits in that same genre of rock and if you know it, you know it. This also just happens to be a rather intense song which has a title that isn't said a lot in the main points of the song.
The chorus has the lines "It couldn't be your fault could it? / It must be mine". This is interesting because I've been in more than one situation where something happens, you have a talk about it and the other person tries to turn it back around onto me. It's that feeling of expressing valud concerns and just having the other person ignore them and try to blame you for something else. While I feel like it happens more than not, I really hope people out there can find others who do not do these types of things.
Lines that hit a little too close to home include: "Your life is one long drawn out childhood scar / And I can't believe you've even made it this far" as well as "Fingers crossed the pain won't get passed down / Of course it will how do you think it gets around?" This song just does such a great job of highlighting events of my past that I can relate a little too well with the music video and the way that it features two people having this conversation.
I'm not sure what it is that makes a person deflect to the point where everything becomes the fault of everyone else but never their own. But I do know that it's not a fun type of person to be around. Whether or not you can take the words of this song to heart, no matter how deeply you feel this one, the rhythm just remains in such a way that this song is not only enjoyable for listening but is almost catchy to where it will get stuck in your head.
