Cassette Review // Adam Void "New Depression Era Rambler"

This whole cassette goes by so quickly that if you aren't paying close enough attention you might miss something.  The longest song on here is a minute and a half- which starts the cassette- and then you can have songs as short as eighteen seconds.  It is not the easiest thing to determine which song starts and ends where, but you can rather hear this as one long strain of sound.

Heavily distorted throughout, at first I am reminded of Dr. Demento in the sound, especially the vocals.  There is something happening which I think is either a guitar or ukelele- some instrument along those lines- but all I can imagine hearing is this music box winding up and letting go.  Parts of this can also sound like parts of 100 gecs, but to compare which parts with which is whole other story.

Fast paced distortion and beeps.  This is like a pinball game out of control.  Somewhat speaking comes through this and then distorted hits.  Loud electronics come through like a modem and words and beats make their way in as well.   Screaming.  We're changing frequencies.  Screeching.  Locomotive engines drive at the same time as those beeps on Morse Code and it just feels hurried.

Spoken words come through like a voicemail.  Then springs are bouncing as we reach the end.  I feel like every time I listen to this cassette I pick up on some new facet of it I didn't before, but you have to understand that even though this is not that long in terms of time there is a lot going on and it might feel like the sound of a 30 minuite LP compressed into 3 minutes.  It just has that way about it where it's complex.
