Music Review // Elliott Isaac "Obviously Faking"

At some point in all of our lives, for one reason or another, we all fake it.  As this gentle acoustic ballad by Elliott Isaac begins, it tells the story of being on the internet and I think that might be one of the biggest places for faking.  You see influencers in photos where they seem so happy and well off, but behind those filters is the truth.  People often times only let you see what they want to and not the negative aspects of their lives.

During the chorus there is this sing along of: "It's so obvious / When I am faking it".  The second verse tells a story of getting sent home from work for being too depressed and that's the sort of idea of how we all fake it sometimes.  We have to put on that brave face for others or just suck it up to try and do what our daily lives require of us.  But I feel like there are those people who simply cannot fake it and you see them at the cash register of certain establishments and just know they're going through it.

More so than just all of that, I also like how in admitting that it is obvious when he is faking it, Elliott Isaac has also opened up this world of truth and exposure to so-called influencers.  There are people out there who we can tell are having a rough go of life but just try to appear so much of the opposite.  They're putting on a front, but we can see right through.  We're know you're not happy as easily as we know you've paid for followers.  People need to start coming to terms with the fact that you can't always fool everyone.

While there can feel like a lighter side to this music, it is still serious in its lyrics.  I feel like this is the type of song that makes you really sit down and think about your life and the choices you've made.  At the end of the day, as Elliott Isaac is singing about himself, it isn't about whether or not other people can tell that you're faking it (and we can) but rather it's about being true to yourself.  All around honesty just makes the world a better place and hopefully this song gives more people that truth.
