Music Review // Matias Roden "Disease with No Name"

As beats kick in to begin this song, we are taken into this blissful pop journey with Matias Roden.   "Disease with No Name" has this chill way about it, but there are also piano parts in here which can make this song feel more serious as well.   Musically this shares similar elements with radio songs by artists like James Blunt or Coldplay, but even if that doesn't sound like the type of crossover you'd prefer, Matias Roden just finds a way to make it work.

Lyrically this song sends an important message about the healthcare system on a whole and doctors.  I don't want to turn this into an entire essay about the faults in the healthcare system, so I will simply say that doctors are human so they are not always right but doctors also work off of past evidence.  So when a patient presents symptoms they might diagnose you with what seems closest based on what they already know.

However, this song sheds that light on the idea of what happens when a patient comes in with a disease that hasn't been put into those medical books yet.   This makes me wonder when they feel like something is close enough or when they just admit it's new.   Lyrics in this song such as: "And the doctor says I've been stressed out for no reason" make me think this is also, in a lot of ways, about your mental health and how doctors often times won't credit how that can affect your physical health and just everything that goes with the myths around mental health.

One of the biggest reasons why I also think this is about mental health is because of the line: "And you learn to live with what you can't kill".  It has been my experience that doctors don't have a way to cure you of things like depression, but rather just kind of numb you to everything.  I also feel like this isn't something you ever get away from, but like the song says you just learn to live with it somehow.   This is an easy song to listen to and it brings up a lot of points that need to made for discussion so everyone should be listening and then some also should be talking.
