Music Review // Shay Wolf "Sunny Days"
While I fully understand that there is an official date to start the Summer and we haven't made it there yet (we are about a week away) there are other factors which come into the start of the sunny season. Whether it be the start of the baseball season or the end of the school year, it just feels like we're in Summer right now mentally. However, the weather here has been hot and sunny some days, but just raining other times. It is in this way that I can really relate with this song by Shay Wolf because I want those "Sunny Days".
I won't try and count how many baseball games I've been to since Memorial Day, but if it's been ten then I can say that there have probably been at least five which were rained out. As a light and acoustic sound brings in a steady rhythm, Shay Wolf sings not about it being sunny outside but the want of it. One of the lines which really sticks with me says "Feels like months of gloom and grey" and sometimes Spring just is like that.
There are a number of different artists you could compare Shay Wolf with in the way that this is light, sort of pop but definitely rock in its sound, but I'm not sure who I would choose specifically. Somewhere between Nelly Furtado and Jill Sobule perhaps. For reasons of it being a good portion of my childhood as well, I must say that this song also took me back to remember the opening song for "Sesame Street".
Even if you don't want "Sunny Days" in a literal sense of the sun shining brightly outside (maybe you don't like the heat, I'm not here to judge) you should still think about "Sunny Days" as representing the idea of positivity and things going well. When you think about it that way, then the lines "Sunny days / Come find me" can become almost like a mantra and this song becomes even more meaningful with each listen.
